Yoga Props

A key element in the practice to challenge and to assist

Welcome to Love & Learn Yoga

Hi, I’m Linda Cochran. I offer private one-on-one yoga sessions in the comfort of your home or via Zoom. The style of yoga I offer is Iyengar yoga which offers benefit to both the novice as well as the more advanced yoga practitioner. For the novice it is helpful as it moves at a slow pace, focuses on each individual pose and uses props to assist or to challenge you. It has focus on alignment, builds body awareness, mental focus, strength and flexibility and as a teacher I guide you with clear instructions. For the more advanced practitioner it teaches…

Iyengar Yoga – A Mindful, slow-paced and Varied Yoga Practice for All

Iyengar yoga is founded on the principles of B.K.S. Iyengar. In this style of yoga the teaching style is thorough, precise and mindful and progress is steady and slow. This gives the students a strong understanding of the poses and the movements within each pose. Hence it also increases the inward focus of the mind and connection with the body. The poses are held longer building up strength and flexibility. Sequencing isn’t just coincidental, but well planned out to increase the intelligence of the mind and the mind’s ability to observe the body.

Just as I have found joy through my yoga practice, I believe you too, can experience the benefits of this practice; the benefits that come with better being able to observe and perceive yourself from within, experience better body awareness and posture, improvement in physical and perhaps also mental well-being.

The fact that our practice is slow and mindful gives us a better chance to observe and adjust our movements. We have a strong focus on proper alignment and spinal extension in Iyengar yoga and the use of props that B.K.S. Iyengar started have many functions. They can be used to facilitate poses that would not otherwise be attainable. They can also help students in their work towards the more advanced poses and when people struggle with physical limitations or injuries. Hence Iyengar yoga is for everybody, the young, old, stiff, weak, strong, disabled. Everyone has the ability to do yoga.

Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers, CIYT’s, undergo rigorous training for several years under mentor ship of a Senior Teacher. The Certification process is set by IYNAUS, the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. During the Certification Process they are evaluated by several Senior Level Iyengar Teachers. Both for their teaching of a class and for the maturity of their own asana and pranayama practice. To maintain a valid Certification they are required to continue studying and learning and have a regular personal practice.
